One of the things I get asked to do a lot is to "fix" other edits. Most of the time its simple fixes....add an Intro/Outro, tempo Correction or simply shorten the mix down to a manageable length. Well a few days ago my best friend DJ Pooch (@dj-pooch-3144) sent me a bunch of edits he picked up of classic disco tracks, which he wanted shortened and tempo corrected. This was among the tracks.
The mix I received was just too damn long....I mean an 8-9 minute version of this song is just waaaay too much of a "cheezy" thing. I have also been hearing this song a lot lately on the internet radio station playing at my job, so by the time I finished "fixing" the one he sent me I decided I should do one of my own. This song is by no means a "Classic", but the Chic production makes what is a mediocre song far less objectionable. I took the long version and updated the rhythm track slightly, gave it what I believe to be a more usable Intro/Outro, tempo corrected the track and took out some of the repetitive fluff. Hopefully some of my peeps will get a little play out of this tasty morsel of Disco Cheez :) ....Enjoy!! :) Edit Info: BPM: 136 Intro: 32/32 Beats Outro: 32/32 Beats End: Cold

A song that was stuck in my head for awhile......I just knew that I had to do something with it.... Track Info: Al Stewart - Year of the Cat (Digital Visions Re-Edit) Date: April-May 2014 BPM: 122 Intro: 32/32/32 Outro: 32/32/32 End: Cold This is another re-boot of an edit I did a few years back when I was just getting back into editing. It was a nice enough mix but I always knew it could be better.
As it is, "Emotion" is one of the sexiest Disco/Pop records ever. My goal (as always) was not to change the feel of the song, but to make it just a bit easier to work with. I took the standard version and extended out the Intro/Outro to very Friendly 32/32 Beats. I gave the song what I felt was a non-overwhelming rhythmic update, I added some light effects plus Tempo Corrected the track to a slightly faster-than-original 95 BPM. Hope you guys Enjoy!! :) And if the DL's disappear quickly...no worries....I may add this to my Legitmix sale catalog! Track Info.... Samantha Sang - Emotion (Digital Visions Re-Edit) Date: May 2014 BPM: 95 Intro: 32/32 Outro: 32/32 End: Cold I have decided on using Legitmix as a portal to offer my Digital Visions Re-Edits for sale. It is something I have thought about on and off for quite some time now as its a viable and LEGAL option to offer my creations. Plus I may even make a few dollars doing it :)
If you've never been to Legitmix and you're a working DJ....you should check it out! Here's a link to my account: https://legitmix.com/discovery/remixer/26195/DJ-FreddyG-Digital-Visions Going thru my library once again to find songs that could use a basic edit for regular play, I always run across a track that somehow seems to get a bit more than just the "basics".
This is a great Disco classic from 1976 that isn't necessarily the first song you think of when you hear the name Carol Douglas. That song would be the classic "Doctors Orders". Took the long version and created an Intro (32/32 Beats), added a full break (32 Beats) and created an Outro (32/32 Beats). I enhanced the Kick and Hats, added light effects and finally locked the tempo at 122 BPM. Hope you guys enjoy the memories :) Track Info: Carol Douglas - Midnight Love Affair (Digital Visions Re-Edit) Created: May 2014 Time: 6:46 BPM: 122 Intro: 32/32 Beats Break: 32 Beats Outro: 32/32 Beats End: Cold I've been "hard at work" lately....creating 2 new edits plus I've finally created a logo (above). After an exhaustive search of cat pics on the net I finally found one that really caught my eye (well those eyes caught my eye). Added some minimal lettering and there you go!
As for the edits, the first, was a lesser remembered track from 1982 by none other than Miss Diana Ross... "Mirror, Mirror". As was the case with my previous edit of "Jack & Jill" by Radio, I once again those a song featuring a more "mature" version of a children's story. In this case the envious Queen featured in Snow White. And its kind of funny that the song is as forgotten as it is since it was a #2 R&B/#8 Top 40 Billboard hit. As a little bit of useless trivia, "Mirror Mirror" was co-written by Michael Sambello of Flashdance's She's a "Maniac" fame. Track Info: Diana Ross - Mirror Mirror (Digital Visions Re-Edit) Created: May 2014 Time: 6:40 BPM: 105 Intro: 32/32 Beats Break: 32 Beats Outro: 32/32 Beats End: Cold The second edit was something I had been interested in doing for quite some time, the 1980 #3 Pop hit duet "Guilty" by Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb.. During the last 70's and very early 80's it seemed everything Barry Giibb touched (produced/wrote) turned to gold...and this was no exception. Awhile back I was trying to decide between editing this song and Samantha Sang's "Emotion"., with the latter getting the nod. Then last week I hear this song playing over the radio and immediately realized that this might make a decent edit. Its not an overly elaborate edit as the song is pretty sweet as is. I did enhance and modify the rhythm track and make it "DJ Friendly" by creating a usable Intro/Outro. The tempo was also bumped up slightly to allow it to be better used a s a bridge between slow and low tempo dance tracks. Track Info: Barbara Streisand & Barry Gibb - Guilty (Digital Visions Re-Edit) Created: May 2014 Time: 5:34 BPM: 80 Intro: 32/32 Beats Break: 32 Beats Outro: 32 Beats End: Cold |
